My Morning Routine

Mornings can be a little hectic in any house, especially once a toddler is involved. That’s the reason why I am such an advocate for waking up before your family — I always try to move my body for thirty minutes before the madness begins. My morning routine usually consists of the same few steps to set the tone for a successful day. You probably have seen me doing a lot of this on my IGstories daily

Wake Up Before Loren and Roux

My alarm goes off at 5:00 a.m. If you told me a few years ago I would be a morning person I NEVER would have believed you. I love my sleep. But as I noted in my post about creating healthy habits that stick, small changes build on each other. Waking up and feeling BEHIND all day might be the worst feeling for me. So, although I love sleep, I love being productive even more AND having downtime at the end of the day without feeling like I’m forgetting to do something or running out of time!

I learned that having ALONE time or downtime at the end of the day was like giving myself the LEFTOVERS – the most TIRED part of my day. When I wake up early – I’m giving myself some quiet time to relax and a chance to really THRIVE and get in front of my goals. Once I made it a priority to start waking up earlier and earlier, my body started adjusting — now I absolutely LOVE IT!

Wash my Face

Never skip washing your face! This is an integral part of my morning routine. Your skin will thank you. I never used to do this in the morning. I wash my face at night – why do I have to do it in the morning!? It’s made such a difference for me! First, I put my hair up with this amazing headband that I’ve been obsessing over. It even has a cut out for a pony! Then, I start with wiping off my nighttime routine with an m-61 face wipe, then I use a tiny bit of my Tula replenishing cleansing oil — followed by a quick splash of warm water. This leaves my skin feeling refreshed. No moisturizer yet, because I’m about to go sweat.

Get Dressed

As I always say, wearing workout clothes that make me FEEL good is a huge motivator for me. Most days I am laying my clothes out the night before – ONE more positive reinforcement for my morning commitment.  You can find some of my favorite fit ‘FITs here. You guys know my outfit isn’t complete without the perfect headband to keep my hair out of my face and add a little fun style. Sometimes I’ll throw in a braid – but usually, I’m doing a quick bubble pony and headed to the kitchen.

Drink

If you’ve watched my IG stories, you’ve probably seen me mixing all the drinks in the morning. This is what I’m drinking every.single.morning. It’s my favorite part of my morning routine!

  • 16 ounces of water – before ANYTHING, drink your water. I love to use my Yeti!

  • Pre-workout – Mine is toxin-free, plant-based and SAFE for nursing mamas. I truly LOVE the taste of my pre-workout. I mix two flavors together for fun! It is something I sincerely look FORWARD to early in the morning because I know once I drink it – the sleepy vibes are gone, it sharpens my focus and I’m ready to go! It gives me the [clean] energy to crush my workout and improves my endurance – which means I’m going to push harder in the workout and have a much more effective sweat sesh.

  • Clean Gatorade – I love to replenish my electrolytes with HYDRATE. It tastes great, has nothing artificial in it, replaces all that I lose when I sweat and helps my body last longer in my workout! We also drink it on hot beach days, when we work in the yard, we bring it to DISNEY with us and Roux even drinks it when he is sick or running around on the soccer field. It’s definitely a family favorite.
Move For 30 Minutes!

Find healthy movement that works for you and do it six days a week for at least 30 minutes. Obviously, my go-to is Beachbody On Demand. The workouts are short, challenging and can be done from my own home! I host a virtual FIT CAMP every single month where my virtual clients and I hold one another accountable and encouraged as we work towards our fitness goals. Sometimes I’ll even jump on my Peloton for a quick spin post-workout if I’m craving more cardio, or let’s be real…. the JAMS. But normally I just follow my simple home workout calendar + am donezo after that! If you are looking for support, meal plans, community, a place to start, or even just some cross-training options – fill out this quick info form – so I can help you, I’d love to!

Wash My Face

Round two! If I’m not doing a full shower, I wash my face and do my full morning facial routine.

You can find all of my favorite products here!

Make my Shake or Coffee

Next up is my Recover plant-based shake [sometimes I do not start eating for the day until 1:00 p.m. – if I am following my Intermittent Fasting eating lifestyle. If that is the case, I won’t have my shake until later!]

  • Plant-Based Post Workout – oh the reward of this drink! Right after my workout, I drink this plant-based recovery shake to help my body recover, reduce soreness and repair muscles so I’m ready to keep showing up the next day. My BCAAs are in this shake along with time-released protein. Sometimes I use a blender and throw frozen cherries in it – but normally I just put it in a shaker cup with some cold water and ice and shake it up! It’s so delicious.

  • Superfood Smoothie – every day ya’ll! This smoothie replaces a meal or IS one of my many meals throughout the day. Often, I drink it for breakfast or my first meal of the day because it’s QUICK to make, the HEALTHIEST thing I’ll put in my body, and I can do all the mom-things or business owner things while sipping on it with one hand. This shake has protein, vitamins, minerals, adaptogens, pre and probiotics, fiber, omega-3, digestive enzymes and antioxidants. It’s helped me lose weight, maintain my results, curb my sugar cravings and kept my immune system healthy and optimal. I have been drinking Vegan Chocolate for over 7 years. It’s ethically farmed and undergoes rigorous quality control testing. My whole family drinks it daily and LOVES it!

  • Coffee – I drink a little bit of the barista edition Oatly Oat milk with my Nespresso pick of the day.
Get Organized for the Day

Shake or coffee in hand, I sit down and give myself one moment of peace before everyone else wakes up. This is by far the most relaxing part of my morning routine.

Lately, this has included a Bloom App reading and a devotional from She Reads Truth

Finally, I make a to-do list for the day. I generally just jot down a few notes in my Plum Paper planner [the stickers are the best!] to keep myself accountable, list some things I am grateful for and organize my day by using TIME BLOCKING. I have my personal affirmations and vision statement written in my planner — I read through these every morning!

If I have a little time left in my morning before Roux wakes up, I’ll begin reading whatever personal growth book I’m committed to. I just finished reading Fear is my Homeboy. Now moving on to Own Your Everyday.

If the toddler sleep fairies are STILL being good to me – then I do a quick walk around the house, light a candle or start a diffuser, load or unload the dishwasher, start or fold a load of laundry and make sure countertops are cleared off – because, for some weird reason, empty counter space makes me happy!!

Then it’s on to mom mode! I ALWAYS feel better when I have knocked out some major self-care items. This routine helps me be the best version of myself for Roux and Loren, and prepares me to show up for my business in the most productive way!

Did any of this help you? What is your morning routine like!?!? I am always looking for new ways to grow and develop my habits! I’d love to learn from you too!
