Get Started Running

6 Tips To Get Started Running

I have not run consistently since Loren and I lived in Colorado. I wouldn’t call myself a runner — I’d actually categorize myself as NOT A RUNNER!

But that’s the part of what I love so much about my fit camps + programming. It challenges us to switch things up! Our upcoming Running/Lifting Hybrid Fit Camp is pushing me to start running again and I’d love for you to join me!

If that’s no your thing, no worries! I’ve put together a few other tips below that have motivated me to get started in the past.

Sign Up for a Race

Although COVID-19 has impacted in-person races, there are a TON of virtual races you could sign up for! If you have trouble motivating yourself, maybe ask a long-distance friend to join you. You can virtually train, run, and celebrate together!

Make a Great Playlist

You ladies know how important it is for me to create a BOMB playlist. Never underestimate how valuable a playlist with your favorite music can motivate you. Make sure the playlist is the length of your run. Try to plan mellow music for your warmup, pump up music for the push you need in the middle, and closeout with your favs!

Run In Your Happy Place

I TOTALLY understand for some people this simply isn’t possible. But, if you can, find a path or park that you LOVE to run at — it’s a game-changer. Sometimes that might mean getting in your car to drive to a spot. It may seem like A LOT of work, but I PROMISE, it’s worth it. It’s so much easier to run when you love the area!

It’s also beneficial to simply change up your runs. Most days you might have to lace up and run right outside your house. Maybe try to go to your happy place on weekends when it’s easier to take a little time away from your babies!

Run With Friends

We all know that having someone counting on you makes it easier to get a task done. Find a friend to be your running buddy — it’s the perfect social distancing activity!

PRO TIP: After runs try to sneak in a quick coffee date for a great start to your day!

Make Time

No one has the time to workout, you have to MAKE TIME. Wake up earlier than your family, time block your days, make time FOR YOU!

Find a 5K Training Program

If you’re a beginner, it’s totally normal to not know where to start! There are so many programs that breakdown how to start from zero and build up to running over 3 miles. HalHigdon, Runners World, and Nike all have great programs.

If you’re looking for more than just a running program, but a community, I would love for you to join us for our upcoming Running/Lifting Hybrid Fit Camp!

This program specifically gives you a COACH to guide you….right in your ear. And we all know the key to continued results + motivation is not always the saaaaaaame exact thing. Workout variety is important!
